Towcester Racecourse is imposing... from the triumphal arched entrance off the A5 Watling Street, through undulating parkland with lake, to the surprising Grandstand, built 5 years ago in Hispanic Deco style!
This "Empress Grandstand" offers accommodation for some 40 stands over 3 floors, with stunning views across the course. Surrounded by carpark the venue is ideal in most respect.
A pilot fair was launched in June 2010, but the heatwave, World Cup and Wimbledon conspired against us! However, many exhibitors did well, and local visitors were delighted to find a good antiques fair in what seems to be a sparcely served area.
Access to Towcester is excellent, as it is between the M1 and M40, with the excellent A43 dual carriageway giving speedy access, just 5 miles from Silverstone.
The 2011 Towcester Fair in September replaces the traditional slot taken formerly by the Chelsea Antiques Fair. As this is also the date for the LAPADA Berkeley Square Fair, Penmans have reduced their presence in Chelsea to one Antiques Fair a year (in March), in favour of Towcester in September. Much groundwork needs to be done to ensure that the local area is well informed about the new Fair, then this will hopefully be the start of a regular annual outing to Towcester.
